It is under the Nova Scotia Notaries and Commissioners Act that Notaries Public are granted the legislated power to administer oaths for various documents.

We can provide proof of qualification as a Notary Public of Nova Scotia under this Act upon request.

From the Notaries and Commissioners Act:

Section 3:
Every such notary public shall have the power of drawing, passing, keeping and issuing all deeds and contracts, charter-parties and other mercantile transactions in this Province, and also of attesting all commercial instruments brought before him for public protestation, and otherwise of acting as is usual in the office of notary, and may demand, receive and have all the rights, profits and emoluments rightfully appertaining and belonging to the said calling of notary during pleasure.

Section 5:
Every notary public upon receiving his commission as such shall take and subscribe in writing an oath for the faithful performance of his duty, which oath may be administered by the Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General, a judge of the Supreme Court or a judge of a county court, or a notary public, and shall be filed in the office of the Attorney General.

Fees

We charge a standard $40.00 for the first document to be notarized, but charge on a sliding scale depending on the volume of documents to be certified. We charge $20.00 for the second document, $15.00 for the third and $10.00 for each extra document to be notarized. Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is charged on top of our regular fees at 15%.
